Conventional wisdom says he’s a long shot, but Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., today will announce he’s running for president.
Sanders, known as a populist liberal and a self-described socialist, will run as a Democrat.

3) If someone truly wants to shrink the size of government, they must accept that the military's $600 billion budget contains significant waste. Bernie's the only candidate who offers any meaningful hope of reducing it.
4) Even conservatives who oppose drug legalization can see the waste in using tax dollars to imprison lots of non-violent criminals due to mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Even someone who believes in being tough on crime can get behind the idea that doing so shouldn't involve lots of wasteful spending at taxpayers' expense. 5) Helping the poor is morally correct, even if some don't like the way government does it or think government has no business doing it in the first place. We can't get everything we want, so why not compromise on something that's at least morally correct, even if they they don't think it's ideal?
